Being the wedding officiant for a One North Broad Masonic Wedding in Philadelphia was an inestimable honor and joy. Kebrena and Jason came all the way up from Texas to get married at the stunningly beautiful Masonic Temple. One North Broad is located next door to City Hall in downtown Philadelphia. Chadwick Weddings assisted them with planning, including recommending vendors, and working with the talented team at Bloom Like Wildflowers. They provided the fantastic images you see below.
The groom, Jason is a Freemason from Texas. As a Freemason myself, I carefully pondered the same question most Freemasons would likely ask: What constitutes a Masonic wedding? Freemasonry isn't a religion, even if it draws from many religious philosophies. So, I crafted a ceremony that incorporated many Masonic elements and symbols. I did so in such a way that conveyed a beautiful message about love and marriage, but with certain "flavors" that only a Freemason might catch.
The most obvious use of the Masonic symbols I referenced was performing a handfasting ritual with a cable tow. A cable tow is a rope used by Freemasons in various rituals. It worked rather nicely as a substitute (ahem) for a typical handfasting ribbon or cord. You can see the blue cable tow tied around their hands in the gallery below. Kebrena and Jason shared vows that they wrote, and they were truly profound and beautiful. Both fathers spoke at the wedding, which gave an even more personal and poignant touch to the ceremony.
