There are many variables to consider when deciding how long your ceremony should be. This helpful video will lay many of the most common ones out for you to consider.
How many people are processing and recessing?
This makes a big difference, actually. What if the aisle is really long? What if you have a lot of people in your wedding party? These two combined can actually take up much more time than you think, even as much as 1/3 of your entire ceremony time.
Readings, Unity Rituals, and Cultural Traditions
Readings, unity rituals (sand, unity candles, etc.), cultural traditions (arras, hand fastings, etc.) can all add time to the ceremony. Readings vary greatly in length, so be sure to factor that in as well.
Late Start for Late Arrivals
Sometimes the shuttle is late. Sometimes there are weather or other reasons the start of the ceremony might be delayed. Build that possibility into your ceremony length from the beginning and it won't make your cocktail hour start late.
